Caroline I. Bieze, BA,RMT, CDT
1n 1994, Caroline decided to turn her passion for massage therapy into reality when she joined Kikkawa College, a massage school in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Two years later, she graduated from the 2200 hour massage program with honours and set up her massage clinic in Oakville.
During the last 22 years of private practice her training expanded to many other therapies, and she now specialises in manual lymph drainage therapy and in lymphedema therapy. Through lymph drainage therapy classes she met Dr. Bruno Chikly M.D., Owner of the Chikly Institute and developer of the lymph drainage curriculum in 2001. Excited about what she learned, she wanted to know more about this important work and continued her training in his curriculum.
The Lymph Drainage training gave her invaluable and extensive knowledge of the lymphatic system. Particularly unique to her training is a technique called "lymph mapping" which allows the practitioner to assess and feel lymph flow. This technique is only taught through the lymph drainage curriculum from Dr. Chikly and is particularly useful when working with lymphedema patients.
The therapist can "map" the lymph flow and follow it as it re-routes through the unaffected areas of the body therefore improving the results of the therapy. After it has been established that the lymph flow is re-routing efficiently, the treatment may be supported by the use of kinesiotaping. After the tape is applied, the patient goes home with the tape on their skin and leaves it on for 3-5 days. This further supports and enhances the lymph flow. This may be a temporary alternative to the compression garment worn by lymphedema patients, provided that the edema is well under control and mild in nature.
In 2001 I was introduced to the exciting and challenging world of the lymphatic system. I was fascinated how a therapy with such a light touch and still relatively unknown could be so powerful! In the years that followed I expanded my knowledge by becoming a teaching assistant for LDT I, II, III and ADV1 classes in the lymph drainage curriculum with The Upledger Institute. This gave me further insight and the opportunity to observe how to treat a wider variety of conditons which were presented to me by various patients.
In 2006 I decided to further specialise in this field by completing my Lymphedema Certification (LLCC/CDT) in Miami, Florida. I re-certified in May of 2009 and again in October 2012. In addition to Registered Massage Therapy and general Lymph Drainage Therapy, my clinic specialises in all aspects of lymphedema therapy and kinesiotaping.
Lymphedema patients living in the Oakville and greater Toronto area are encouraged to contact the clinic for more information and to book an appointment for a consultation.
